Accident Snarls Interstate 684

January 24, 2006

Northbound traffic on Interstate 684 was stopped for nearly an hour last night, November 3, after the driver of a tractor-trailer jackknifed to avoid a vehicle in front of him, causing a school bus and another car to collide behind him, authorities said.

State Trooper Joe Izzo said that there were only minor injuries in the accident.

According to State Trooper Joe Izzo, at about 6:10 p.m., the tractor-trailer's driver applied his brakes to prevent hitting a car in front of him.

A Mercury Mystique which was behind him hit the truck and the driver of a private bus carrying students tried to stop, but could not. It hit the Mercury.

The Mercury's driver and one student were taken to Northern Westchester Hospital.

The tractor-trailer's driver, Steve Cichocki, 54, of South Cairo, New York, was not hurt.
