A 22-year-old Blauvelt man died inside his burning car yesterday when the vehicle crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer on Route 59.
Alfonse Sedotto was killed and his two 21-year-old passengers were seriously injured and remained hospitalized last night, police said.
Frank Piazza of Grand View was admitted to Nyack Hospital with head injuries, police said. Carly Jannetty of Wolcott, Conn., was being treated for multiple injuries at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
The fatal accident occurred around 3 a.m. and forced police to close Route 59 eastbound at Crosfield Avenue for nearly eight hours.
Police initially indicated that Sedotto was driving his BMW too fast down that dark stretch of Route 59, police said.
Sedotto was just west of the Palisades Center when he plowed into the back of a tractor-trailer in the right lane.
The BMW wedged under the truck and ignited. The tractor-trailer driver was injured.
Toxicology results on the victim are pending.
