One member of the East Coast band Bayside was killed when a van pulling a trailer jackknifed on icy Interstate 80 and rolled near Cheyenne, Wyo.
Drummer John 'Beatz' Holohan, 31, of Dumont, N.J., died at the scene, police said. He was ejected from the 2001 Ford van when it rolled over at 3:09 a.m. 12 miles west of Cheyenne, police said.
Bass player Nick Ghanbarian, 25, of New York, was also seriously injured in the crash, according to the band's Web site. Ghanbarian was hospitalized in fair condition in the intensive care unit at the United Medical Center in Cheyenne, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Another passenger, Daniel Marino, also of New York, was listed in serious condition at the hospital. Band members Anthony Raneri and Jack O'Shea were among three others who escaped injury. One other passenger was treated and released.
Sgt. Stephen Townsend of the Wyoming Highway Patrol said road conditions at the time of the accident were icy and wet after a light snow flurry. The van was pulling a trailer loaded with band equipment when the accident occurred. The band's scheduled concert for Monday night in Salt Lake City was canceled and the band's Web site stated that the band intends to make an announcement regarding remaining dates on its 'Never Sleep Again' tour schedule.
