Teen Dies After Car, Tractor Trailer Collide

New York State troopers continued their investigation into a fatal two-vehicle accident on Route 79, about four-tenths of a mile east of Burns Road Wednesday, September 21.

Ryan J. Bidwell, 19, of 2 Boiceville Road in Brooktondale was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel at 11:52 a.m.

According to New York state troopers, Ryan Bidwell had been traveling west on Route 79, went into the path of an oncoming traffic and collided head-on with tractor-trailer driven by David R. Shraugher, 43, of 3722 Route 11 in Marathon.

David Shraugher was taken to Cayuga Medical Center by Bangs Ambulance for treatment of bruised ribs, Ithaca firefighters said.

Troopers say that they had not determined the cause of the accident Wednesday night.
