SUV Passing Doubled-parked Cars Collides With Bike

January 6, 2006

According to a city police, a 34-year-old Syracuse man while riding a bicycle on Merriman Avenue was struck by an SUV. He was in surgery for head injuries on September 15.

Police responded to the crash in the 100 block of Merriman Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Shannon Trice.

Police said that the cyclist was traveling west toward Oswego Street when a woman driving a white Mercury Mountaineer tried to pass illegally double-parked cars.

The white Mercury Mountaineer was on the wrong side of the road and it collided head-on with the bicycle, police reported.
