Three Injured In Bus Crash

January 24, 2006

Three adults - but no students - were hurt in a head-on crash between a school bus and a dump truck Saturday, November 5.

Franklin Fire Chief Tom Worden said that the accident happened at about 2 p.m. Saturday on county Route 1 in Franklin when Downsville Central School bus was on its way home.

According to the district athletic director Jeff Baier, the school bus driver Donna Tompkins and the scorekeeper Goldie Mills, 42, of Downsville were in the bus at the time of accident. There was no student in the bus.

Emergency responders took the dump-truck driver to A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Ms. Mills said she was transferred to Albany Medical Center with a broken pelvis and several other injuries, including some to one of her knees.

Ms. Tompkins was treated at Fox and then transferred to Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City, said Fox spokeswoman Maggie Barnes. Ms. Tompkins had fractured one of her legs and had some chest injuries.
