Truck, Camper Collide In Greene

January 10, 2006

Barbara and Adam Jarosz were traveling south through the Village of Greene on Route 12, heading to Chenango Valley State Park on Thursday, September 22, when a tractor-trailer struck their 31-foot Citation camper, splitting it open.

New York State Police said that the tractor-trailer, which was traveling down Route 206 into the village, was driven by Vasiliy Maftey, 33, of Gresham, Oregon.

State Trooper Helena Allen said the truck driver, Vasiliy Maftey, told her he was attempting to make a left turn onto Route 12 to continue north to Utica. The crash occurred at 11:43 a.m.

Helena Allen said that there was no way he could make left turn at that speed.

Maftey was issued traffic summonses for passing a red light and unsafe brakes, Helena Allen said.
