Driver Arrested In Friend's Death
Betina Madrid 18, died early yesterday, November 10, in the crash of an SUV driven by Jennifer Grabowski, 19, who had consumed a powerful drink on an empty stomach.
According to police, it was raining hard, and the accident occurred at 1:57 a.m. on the Grand Central Parkway near the Union Turnpike in Queens when Jennifer's Ford Explorer hit a parkway median and flipped over, hurling Betina out a rear window.
A minute after landing on the highway, Betina was hit by another car, police said.
Gabriel Diaz, 21, the third passenger, was also ejected from the SUV. He was in stable condition yesterday at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Jennifer, whose blood alcohol level at the time of the accident was .057, was arraigned last night on a charge of 'driving while ability is impaired by alcohol,' or DWAI.
